Be Bold. It sounds like a resounding statement. The first things that flash through your mind are probably people standing up for themselves or doing daring acts to prove a point.
Sometimes a definition helps to visualize a word more and in thinking how best to write this post, I thought a lot about it.
1.(of a person, action, or idea) showing an ability to take risks; confident and courageous.
Society has a thing against risks that end in failure. If your risk turns out well, you are “lucky” or “smart”. But if you took that risk and failed, you will always be a failure to some extent, at least that’s what many people think.
Doing just about anything can be scary, given your background. But it’s stepping outside of that comfort zone, even just a tiny bit, that shows boldness.
What is something you’ve always wanted to accomplish or do? What has been keeping you from doing that?
I have always wanted to write fiction. I spend hours and hours reading/listening to books (because I need motivation to do my laundry) and ideas come to my mind when I’m watching a show or when my kids do something to spark plot points.
There are several notebooks around our house with half-written stories, some fantasies, some mushy romance.
So why haven’t I actually finished one?
I’d like to make the excuse that it’s because I’m a mom to four children. Yes, that is a big responsibility and when I do write, it’s usually late at night, meaning I can make the time.
The truth is, I wrote a story some years ago and submitted it to a publisher. It took 6 long months to receive a rejection email and I think doubt has taken over. I want it to be perfect from the first draft, which makes it hard to get anywhere if you’re still correcting page 1.
I can fail at so many things and bounce back relatively quickly, but writing is so dear and personal, like baring your soul to the world of people you don’t know.
When I received this shirt from Cents of Style, I thought about what I could say that would be helpful to you, my friends.
Being bold isn’t something that automatically works in every aspect of our life. We all have an area or two where we would like to be more adventurous or daring.
I don’t think being bold is having to be contrary to the norm at all times. It’s what the definition says, being able to take risks, being courageous and confident.
That doesn’t mean you have to be confident from the very beginning!
Taking that risk is nerve-wracking, with your stomach tied in knots and a headache on the horizon. But as you continue forward, that confidence builds until you find yourself conquering whatever it was that held you back.
So bold, here we come! We will be victorious over our fears. Just one foot in front of the other and here we go.
You might find that bravery and boldness are a part of you and hopefully it catches like wildfire. Maybe it will spark you onto your next dream and hop to the people around you.
